Location: Whitegate Refinery, Cork, Ireland, February 2026
Successful tank cleaning requires more than advanced equipment, it requires skilled operators.
When Ambipar Response Ireland invested in expanding its BLABO capabilities, Oreco provided both theoretical and practical training to ensure the team could confidently plan, mobilize, and execute automated tank cleaning projects.
From classroom training to real-life operations
The training program began with a five-day theoretical course at Ambipar’s facilities in Cork, covering BLABO system fundamentals, operational procedures, safety requirements, and tank cleaning best practices.
To reinforce the learning, a practical training program was conducted during the cleaning of a heavy fuel oil tank at Whitegate Refinery. Working alongside Oreco supervisors, Ambipar operators participated in every phase of the project, from mobilization and nozzle placement to desludging operations and final tank cleaning.

Learning trough experience
The tank selected for training was a 19,500 m³ fixed-roof tank containing approximately 500 m³ of sludge and sediment. Throughout the project, operators gained hands-on experience with:
- Pre-job planning and mobilization
- Installation and pressure testing of BLABO equipment
- Nozzle placement strategies
- Cutter stock management and sludge recovery
- Operational troubleshooting
- Safe and efficient tank cleaning procedures
The practical setting allowed operators to experience real-world challenges while receiving guidance from experienced Oreco supervisors
Training combined with outstanding results
The project was completed ahead of schedule. Approximately 1,300 m³ of oil and sludge were recovered, while less than 10 m³ of residue remained in the tank after cleaning.
The final result demonstrated not only the effectiveness of the BLABO system but also the value of hands-on operator training as a foundation for future tank cleaning projects.

Knowledge transfer that creates long-term value
For Oreco, successful tank cleaning is about more than delivering equipment. By combining practical expertise, on-site supervision, and structured training, Oreco helps customers build the skills needed to achieve safe, efficient, and repeatable results.
As this project showed, the best outcomes are achieved when technology and experience work together.
